US to Publish GDP Data on Blockchain in Transparency Push
The US Department of Commerce will begin publishing key economic indicators, including Gross Domestic Product (GDP), on blockchain networks. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced the initiative during a WHITE House cabinet meeting, framing it as part of a broader digital transformation of government data distribution.
The MOVE project aims to modernize access to official statistics across federal agencies, with GDP serving as the inaugural dataset. While implementation details remain unclear—including the choice between permissioned or public blockchain infrastructure—the program may later expand to other agencies. Estonia, the EU, and California have implemented similar systems, but the US adoption marks a significant milestone for institutional blockchain use.
